“Momma! Momma!”

A young girl, appearing to be around five years old, ran towards Katara, her arms outstretched. Her golden eyes were filled with tears

“What‘s wrong, Ai?” Katara asked, scooping her daughter up.

“Momma, they’re doing it again...they’re making fun of me, just because I’m not very good at firebending,” she answered, tears threatening to fall down her face. Katara frowned and shushed her daughter, wiping the tears from her eyes with the corner of her sleeve. She stroked her daughter’s hair fondly, singing a lullabye from her own childhood.

Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine

As enraptured as the pair were, they failed to notice Fire Lord Zuko’s presence in the doorway. He had heard Katara’s voice before, and had since then longed to hear it again. So, when he heard the familiar sound, naturally he went right to it. He leaned against the doorframe, his arms crossed and his eyes closed, enjoying the music.

Little one when you play
Don't you mind what you say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine

Ai snuggled closer to her mother, her eyelids starting to droop. Katara smiled knowingly and continued with her song, still unaware of her husband’s presence behind her.

If they knew sweet little you
They'd end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they'd give just for
The right to hold you

A pair of strong arms wrapped themselves around Katara’s form as she sang. Though, she wasn’t singing alone anymore. Her husband’s deep voice had joined in to sing the last verse.

From your head to your toes
You're not much, goodness knows
But you're so precious to me
Cute as can be, baby of mine
